Lady Eagles Pop Florence Lexington Stops Thorndale

Lexington moved above .500 in the district volleyball race with a three game win over Florence Saturday afternoon. Lexington is now 4-3 in district action. The Lady Eagles won by scores of 25- 18, 25-19, and 25-16.

Johna Alford led the team with 11 kills and five aces. Aleece Moerbe had some impressive kills. Karley Wren had numerous digs and passed the ball well. The number of kills and digs were down due to many unforced errors committed by Florence.

The JV Gold won their match in two games over Florence.

JV Green lost their match in two games.

Lexington and Thorndale engaged in a hard- fought, tightly contested volleyball game Tuesday night. The Lady Eagles prevailed 26-24, 21-25, 25-22, and 25-23 in four games. Johna Alford led the Lady Eagles with 21 kills, four ace serves, and five blocks.

Game 1-The two teams played evenly, with Thorndale taking an early lead and Lexington rallying back to tie before Thorndale took the lead again. With the score tied at 24, Lexington used their offense to take the lead 25-24. Alford then served the winning point, as the Lady Dogs could not return the serve after a miss hit on the receive.

Game 2-Thorndale ran off six straight points late in the game. Lexington fought back, as Madison Bexley served four winners in a row before Thorndale could win a point. Alford was outstanding in this game with nine of her kills and a block.

Game 3-Lexington took the lead early and never relinquished. Aleece Moerbe stepped up in this game, as she had four kills in the win. Madeline Morton and Karley Wren also had kills. Alford had an ace serve and four kills in this game.

Game 4-This too, was a tightly contested game. Lexington got out to an early lead due to an ace by Karley Wren, an Alford block, and a team point on a true volley. Alford followed after a point for Thorndale with two aces sandwiched around a Madeline Morton kill. Later in the game, Alford had three kills in a row to rekindle the Eagle fire. Thorndale then ran off six points-in-a-row come back to a tie. Lexington then scored the final two points on serves by Aleece Moerbe to take the game and match.

Karley Wren had 24 digs in the match and Moerbe had 10 kills. Morton had three kills and an important combo- block to complement the massive Alford game.

The JV Green lost 15-25, 23-25 to Thorndale. The JV Gold also lost 14-25, 25-18, 13-25.
