Bastrop Volunteer Reception Center to Aid Volunteers, Organizations, and Homeowners in Wildfire Relief

When the community of Lexington gets together to help their own, the town comes out in a BIG way! That certainly was the case on Saturday a week ago when the Masons put together a fish fry fund raiser to help Reuel Cooper and Jamie Wright with medical expenses while they fight cancer. Pictured above are some of the “behind the scenes angels” cooking and serving during the event. They are (left to right) Vanessa McCoy, Johnny Menges, Nell Vizena and Priscilla Brister. Last week, the Bastrop Calvary Baptist Church opened its doors as a Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) for those interested in providing assistance to the Bastrop Fire relief effort. The organization leading the Volunteers involved in the recovery effort, the Bastrop Christian Ministerial Alliance, established the center as a way to give volunteers the opportunity to learn about, and sign up for volunteer opportunities located throughout Bastrop and Smithville. Partnering with various organizations working to provide disaster assistance, the center aims to provide the public a central location for getting involved. Upon registration, volunteers will be matched with opportunities based on interest and availability. Individuals and groups interested in volunteering should visit the VRC located at 3001 Loop 150 E. Monday - Friday between 9 a.m.and 7 p.m. and Wednesday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Those interested can also register online http:// www.bastroprelief.org/volunteer.

In addition, homeowners in need of recovery assistance can stop in the VRC to fill out a homeowner intake form. The VRC will then provide volunteer support through affiliated agencies.

The County of Bastrop requests that all volunteer agencies register with the VRC. Please contact the VRC at bastropvrc@gmail.com or visit the VRC facility.
