Sports Thoughts

by Mike Organ

Well, how do you feel about the Longhorns after they beat Brigham Young 17-16? Garrett Gilbert is probably history after Saturday’s game. You feel sorry for the young man, but Case McCoy and David Ash really sparked the offense and did not make any major mistakes.

Is Tony Romo the Cowboy quarterback that will lead them to the playoffs and Super Bowl? I don’t think so, but I hope I am wrong. He seems to make major mistakes when the game is on the line. He had help Sunday night with some of the play calling.

The Eagles are looking really good in their pursuit of another state championship game. With exciting playmakers like Kogan Garrett, Josh Murray, Jason Washington, A.J. Flot, and Eriq Mitchell, the opponent’s defense is stretched to defend all the firepower.

The Lady Eagles got off to a good start in district action with a win over Academy. It was very entertaining and competitive. It was an enjoyable match to watch because the teams were evenly matched.

I had a chance to watch the UTSA – McMurry game in San Antonio Saturday. The young start- up program at UTSA is playing as a Division I school and McMurry is a D3. McMurry won 24- 21 on a touchdown pass with 40 seconds left in the game. Jimmy Terrell, who plays for McMurry, had an injured ankle and was not supposed to play. But play he did, as is usual for Jimmy, a 2007 graduate of LHS.
