Eagles Host Blanco in Home Opener
Lexington will play host to the Blanco Panthers Friday night in their 2011 home opener. Both teams lost the opening game of the season. Blanco lost to Fischer Canyon Lake 14-7 and Lexington lost to Smithville.
The Panthers are in District 13AA-Division I with Comfort, Lago Vista, Luling, Marion, and Kerrville Tom Moore. Blanco is predicted to make the playoffs by Texas Football.
The Panther’s coach is former Smithville Tiger quarterback Danny Rogers. His son, Tanner a three-year starter, is the Blanco quarterback. The Eagles defeated the Panthers 23-13 last season in a tightly contested game. Rogers will have a new group of skilled people to hand off to and throw passes toward. Not a player that carried the ball or caught a pass in last year’s game is returning. The Eagles tackled Rogers for losses last year as he finished with 11 carries for (- 22) yards. The Panthers did hit the Eagles for a 51-yard pass play and a 42-yard pass play.
The Panthers are not big on defense, but they wear their hitting shoes every game just like the Eagles. Blanco uses an odd-man front. From the base defense they will attack with various stunts and shifts. They return five starters on defense led by end, Matt Pepper.
