Young Eagles Perform Well in 3-Way Contest

by Mark Strain

The Lexington JV traveled to Groesbeck on Thursday evening, August 18, for a three way scrimmage that included Mart. The scrimmage worked with alternating teams and offenses and defenses running in and out after 12 plays.

With 3A Groesbeck and State winner 1A Mart, the contest appeared to be pretty even. In the first round, Groesbeck’s offense scored on Lexington’s defense. Mart’s offense scored on Groesbeck’s defense and then Lexington ran out of plays on the Mart 7 yard line with a first and goal.

In the second round of play, the Lexington offense scored on the Mart defense when #3 Jamyon Scott completed a 15 yard touchdown pass to #12 Corey Strain. Then the Lexington defense picked off a Groesbeck pass returning it for a second score.

In the third and last rounds, 3A Groesbeck again scored on Lexington’s defense. This week, with school starting, the coaching staff will incorporate special teams and prepare the team for the JV’s first home game to be held Thursday at 6 p.m. against the 3A Smithville Tigers. Come down to Eagle Stadium to help cheer the Lexington JV toward a win!
