New Police Officer Quits After One Week
Matt Lumpkin turned in his resignation to Chief Jerry Bowden Monday, August 22, after one week on the job. Bowden had just returned from a week’s medical leave when Lumpkin handed him his resignation, effective immediately.
Lumpkin had been working with Captain Clarence Yarborough. Both men were sworn in on August 5. Yarborough started on Monday, August 8 and Lumpkin started on Monday, August 15.
Chief Bowden was sworn in on June 30 and started on July 1. He began immediately to find qualified applicants to fill the vacant positions within the Lexington Police Department, which had been void of a Chief and officers for several months.
The search has already begun for another officer.
