Sports Thoughts

by Mike Organ

The Eagles looked pretty good against Caldwell. I hope the Eagles are that good and Caldwell isn’t that bad.

Friends that attended the Giddings-Columbus scrimmage said the Buffs topped the Cards easily. The Austin American picked the Buffs the #10 team in Central Texas. The Buffs have enough returning personnel to deserve the ranking and go deep into the playoffs.

It appears that greed is going to destroy all the traditions that we know. Texas got greedy and started their own TV network. That is prompting Texas A&M to probably move to the Southeastern Conference and will destroy the Big XII in addition the Thanksgiving weekend rivalry. Will Texas and OU quit playing each other in Dallas? Nothing is sacred except the all- mighty dollar.

The Rangers are still winning and getting better as the season progresses. The Astros may not win fifty games this season.

Not sports: In the article about the LVFD/Lions Club fundraiser printed in the August 4 Leader, I called a bidding group the Phillip Brown consortium. It should have been the 70’s gang of: Wayne and Pam Iselt, Ricky and Michele Brown, Gary and Madeline Stifflemire, Kenny and Janice Smith, Cindy and Keith Bexley, Phillip and Lynette Brown, and Denise Brademan.
