The Eagles travel to Groesbeck Thursday night to have a dual scrimmage with Mart and Groesbeck on the Goats Astroturf field. The Eagles were supposed to scrimmage with Rockdale and Robinson but the Rockets did not want to make it a three-way outing and the Eagles were the team left out.

Mart is the defending Class A Division I state champion and Groesbeck is coming off a 6-4 season in District 20-AAA.

Mart lost 18 seniors of the title team. That does not mean they are devoid of talent. Linebacker Leonard Williams is a three-year starter coming back for a fourth term. Defensive back Quentin Bryant is the best athlete on the squad. Both were defensive starters last season and will see extensive duty in the offensive backfield. The Panthers are picked to win their district and advance deep into the playoffs once again.

Groesbeck is predicted to finish football at the end of the regular season. They are in the district with Fairfield, Mexia, Madisonville, Palestine, and Palestine Westwood. Running back Michael Graves doubled as all-district safety last season.
