Football, volleyball, and cross country seasons are upon us despite the Texas heat. Coaches are having to be very careful with the athletes. They, like most of us, have been surviving the ultra hot summer in air conditioning. The change can be drastic. The football coaches are having to get the athletes ready for competition. They would rather err on the side of caution than have one player have a problem.
The Astros are almost a minor league team now that they have traded off the only players they had that anybody wanted. What did they get in return? Only time will tell, but the main player they got last year for Roy Oswalt has been shipped to the minors.
The Rangers, on the other hand, got two relievers that most predict will get them back to the World Series again this year. I- 45 has two different philosophies and two different results at each end.
What will the Cowboys do this year? They have a new defensive coordinator in Rob Ryan. If the defense can hold the opponent under 24 points, the chances of winning are great. Dallas was 6- 10 last season. If they had had a trusted kicker, they may have made the playoffs. So close, yet so far away.
I was sad to see Brock Fitzhenry not play for Texas this season. It could have been his breakout season, if given the chance.
The Aggies are quietly getting ready for the season, not making many headlines, and may make a strong run at the Big XII championship.
