Sports Thoughts…

by Mike Organ

The new fall high school sports season is underway. Football, volleyball, and cross country got started Monday. The Eagles will have their first scrimmage next week against Caldwell. It is always a battle, but this time there will be a little extra with Coach Jeff Rogers and Coach Charlie Tucker, former Lexington coaches, wearing orange.

It will be interesting to see how the Eagles football fortunes will go this year with all the quality that graduated. That is not to say there isn’t a lot of quality returning to the Mean Green.

The volleyball team returns almost intact from the end of last season. The girls did very well in the Cameron summer league. This group could lead the Lady Eagles back to the playoffs.

The Astros general manager was “phired” by the Phillies. The person that took over made some trades, spent some big money, and got them into the World Series. He has traded away all the true major league baseball players on the Astros and the farm system is the pits. When the new owners take over he will have a new mailing address.

The Rangers, on the other hand, are making good trades and their farm system is one of the best in baseball. Nolan Ryan has had a very positive influence on the franchise.
