Jessica Parish, a 2009 graduate of Lexington High School, and her team, Elgin Express, won the 18U IFA National Championship recently. Jessica Parish teamed up with college freshmen from Houston and Elgin to compete in the IFA 18U National Tournament in Beaumont last week. She was coached by Jeff Moore from Elgin and her dad, Richard.

The tournament consisted of 34 teams primarily from Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and California. Her team, the Elgin Express, finished pool play with 2 wins and 1 loss, seeding them 3rd in their pool, which placed them in a bracket.

They swept through the bracket and Jessica hit a 2-run homer in the bracket championship game. In the final four semi-final, they won in their last at-bat. Trailing 3 to 2, Jessica knocked in 2 runs with a double to right field to seal the win. In the championship final they knocked off a very talented team from California 12-2. Jessica set the tone in the top of the first with a 3-run bomb to left-center to put the team on the board early.

The team never looked back as they continued to score often. The team was comprised of very talented young ladies that needed no coaching. All the credit goes to Elgin Express players, and to Coach Jeff for putting this team together.
