Pearl Theresa Koym
Pearl Theresa Hoffman Koym died July 26, 2011 at Oakland Manor Nursing Center in Giddings at age 95. Born July 19, 1916, she was the last surviving of eight children born to Louis and Lydia Mosebach Hoffmann of Paige, Texas. On October 27, 1934 she married Julius Bernard “JB” Koym of East Bernard, Texas, and they were blessed with two children, James Burnis and Vivian Ruth. A full- time homemaker for most of her life, she raised their two children in Giddings, Goose Creek, La Porte, and Pasadena. After she and her husband JB retired in 1971, they lived on part of the Hoffmann farm in Paige where she was born and grew up. In 2001 she moved to Claremont, CA, to live with her daughter Vivian and her husband Charles Dube, before returning to live with them in Manheim in 2003. Known to be feisty, Pearl enjoyed gardening, knitting, and crocheting.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son James, three brothers; Bill, Gus, and Ewald Hoffmann, four sisters; Alma Vogel, Tina Lesikar, Emma Koym, and Lillie Nicols, as well as all of her brothers-inlaw and sisters-in-law.
She is survived by her daughter Vivian and Charles Dube of Lincoln, two granddaughters; Charis and Rob Sharp of Seattle, WA, and Anna Dube of Portland, OR, a great-grandson Robert “ Rab” Sharp and a greatgranddaughter Ruth Etta Sharp, who was born less than two days before Pearl’s death.
Funeral Services for Pearl Koym were Friday, July 29, 2011, at Grace Lutheran Church in Giddings, TX. Burial followed at East Bernard Methodist Cemetery.
Memorials have been requested to be given to the Hospice Brazos Valley, Grace Lutheran Church of Giddings, and the Texas Wendish Heritage Society.
