The Giddings Public Library and Cultural Center registered 240 children for the annual Summer Reading Program for 2011 entitled “DIG UP A GOOD BOOK”. Breaking down the number of children, it amounted to 44 for ages 3 and 4, 63 for ages 5 to 6, 81 for ages 7 to 9, and 52 for ages 10-12.

There were 266 in attendance for the first week’s program. In the 3- 4 age group for that first week, we had 30 children and 14 parents. In the 5-6 age group there were 35 children and 18 adults. The progran had 33 children ages 7-9 with their 19 parents, and 40 children ages 10-12 with 15 parents attended their particular “first week” programs.

This year, as last year, Giddings Public Library’s Summer Reading 2011 Program enjoyed the wonderful participation of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus as they provided an additional reading level prize in the form of a circus pass for those Summer Reading 2011 registrars that reached that particular level. In conjunction with their participation, Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey provided a special Bonzo Crunch Clown Show presentation held in Giddings on June 7, 2011 at Giddings Public Library. Bonzo Crunch the Clown put on a great show for the crowd of about 140 and also boosted our Summer Reading 2011 registration!

Children ages 3-6 years celebrated the end of Summer Reading Program on July 27, at Giddings’ Simmang Park. There were 39 in the age group 3-6 years present with 19 adults. The children enjoyed some splendid splashing water fun!

The end of Summer Reading celebration for the 7-12 year olds was held at the Giddings City Pool on July 28th. Attending this party were 43 children.

Awards were presented for the Art Contests for ages 3-6 , and for ages 7-12, and also, for the ages 7- 12 Writing Contest.

We will do our best to continue to innovate with the Summer 2012 Reading program and all other programs.
