Derek is playing this summer with the Brazos Valley Renegades (BVR). The BVR is a 16 and under team made up of ball players from Bryan, Caldwell, Brenham, LaGrange, Schulenburg, Columbus and Rogers, with Derek being the youngest on the team at 14. They play in the Texas Show Case League, which means they play against the best teams Texas has to offer in some of the best venues around (Temple College, San Jacinto Jr. College, University of Mary Hardin Baylor, Rice, and Concordia University).

The Renegades brought Derek over to catch for the team. There are two catchers on this team and they rotate games behind the plate. The Renegades play somewhere in Texas every weekend.

Derek is having a great summer, both behind the plate and with the bat. Most tournaments have been either wooden bat or BBCOR, the new aluminum bat standard.

Derek will attend a College Evaluation camp in July.

Derek and the BVR will be traveling to Kissimmee, Florida for the National Championships, which will include teams from all across the nation, including teams from Puerto Rico and Canada. Kissimmee is the home to the Houston Astros in spring training and a rookie league team during the baseball season.
