From the Superintendent of Schools
It is hard to believe that August 22, the first day of school for Lexington students, is less than a month away. Our teachers, administrators, and staff are working hard this summer to make sure the 2011-2012 school year will be the best ever for every student walking through our doors this August.
At our June 27th School Board Meeting we reviewed the importance of aligning our resources and our efforts towards our goal of making sure that every student in our district will graduate with all the options available to them, whether it be college, technical school, military or a career. To make this goal a reality, many of our staff members are working behind the scenes making sure our welding shop is brought up to speed in order to allow students increased opportunities in workforce certifications and registering our students for college classes.
At the same time, some of our high school students are working under the direction of Curtis Patschke, making sure all of our campuses have wireless access for increased online learning opportunities.
Our teachers are attending numerous training opportunities on aligning student learning from pre - kindergarten on towards college and career readiness.
This week we received the My College Options report from a survey that our eighth grade students took for the first time this past year. One hundred percent of our students aspire to go to college. WOW! We must take those aspirations and dreams of our students very seriously and recognize it is up to us to make sure that every child going through our school system is equipped with the academic and self management skills necessary for post high school success.
