Ladies of the Colorado Valley Quilt Guild are busy with many activities this summer and have not let the heat affect the progress of their favorite hobby. Plans are already underway to charter a bus to the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas, on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011. Reservations for this bus close on Oct. 1. Interested persons may call 523-308-0245 or 512-3321-8543 for more information.

At the end of July a number of Guild members will attend a Retreat at the Compass Center at Mount Calm, Texas. These popular events, which occur three times each year, are an opportunity to accomplish a good deal of work while enjoying the company of like-minded friends.

July will also see a class in quilted feathers, presented by Dot Collins of Beaumont, Texas on Monday the 25th. Dot Collins will also present the program for the Guild’s July meeting. Ms. Collins, veteran quilter and teacher, will show many of her quilts, demonstrating a variety of border techniques. Her lecture, Unusual Border Ideas, includes suggestions and samples for more interesting and unique borders.

The Guild’s July meeting will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday July 26, at the First United Methodist Church, 1215 Von Minden Rd., La Grange, Texas. Guests are always welcome.
