Eagles @ State 7 on 7
The Lexington Eagles qualified for the state 7 on 7 tourney in Division II to be held at Texas A&M starting Thursday at noon. (Class 3A and under). The teams that qualified are: Anahuac, West Orange Stark, Celina, Princeton, Ballinger, Eastland, East Bernard, Edna, LaVilla, Taft, Lago Vista, Gatesville, Lorena, Merkel, Seminole, Waco Reicher, Whitney, Hitchcock, Houston Kinkaid, Rice Consolidated, Wimberley, Argyle, Kaufman, Iraan, Sonora, Beaumont Kelly, Liberty, Navasota, Rockdale, Industrial, Pettus, Academy, Clifton, Alpine, Fort Stockton, Crockett, Gilmer, Glen Rose, Godley, Turkey Valley, Wellington, Bandera, Marion, Brownwood, Abilene Wylie, Melissa, Sanger, Tyler Chapel Hill, Lindale, Bangs, Salado, Aubrey, Decatur, Ingleside, Mathis, Cameron, Somerset, Austin St. Andrews, Burnet, Comanche, Prosper, and Lexington.
Sixty four teams qualified and one will be crowned champion. According to one ranking service, Lexington is the # 4 ranked team of the entire group. Most of the teams are from larger schools than Lexington. Turkey Valley is a sixman school that qualified for the tourney in area competition.
The game is all passing. Every play must be a pass play. Lexington quarterback Kogan Garrett will be throwing to: Jason Washington, Josh Murray, Logan Meuth, Collin Wiggins, Donnie Havard, Eriq Mitchell, and Tyler Meyer. Those same players will be playing defense trying to stop the opponents’ passing game. There is a lot of running taking place since nearly every play someone goes deep.
