Zelma Holliman Ellis
Zelma Holliman Ellis was born June 16, 1932 in Milam County, Texas, one of four children born to Elmer Cornelius and Lila Jessie (Watson) Holliman. She lived all of her life in Rockdale and Forest Grove.
On December 31, 1949, she and Ike S. Ellis were married in Rockdale. To this union seven children were born. Zelma worked for MHMR in Brenham and Rockdale, the MARC Center in Rockdale and retired from there to provide home health care. She was a member of Forest Grove Christian Church and was an active member of the Rockdale V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. Zelma spent her life caring for others especially her children and grandchildren.
Zelma passed away Friday, July 8, 2011 in the Scott & White Hospital, reaching the age of 79. She was preceded in death by her husband on January 8, 2006; 3 sons, David Ike, Jim Sam and John Robert Ellis; a sister, Helen Fulton; and 2 brothers, Olen and Harold Holliman.
Surviving are a son, Doug Ellis and wife Sherry of Rockdale; 3 daughters, Barbara Zawadzke Rhodes of Rockdale, Linda Walker and husband Stephen of Milano, and Peggy Morton and husband Johnny of Rockdale; 12 grandchildren, Nikki Nadeau & husband Doug, Zana Watson & husband Wade, Zachary Zawadzke, Kara Clore & husband Mike, Kelly Taylor & husband Danny, Erin Luce, Lucas Hairston & wife Erin, Sam Walker, Amy Fatheree & husband Justin, Joanna Block & husband Albert, Brandon Bell & wife Jordan, Matthew Ellis; 17 great grandchildren and one greatgreat grandchild.
Pallbearers were Brandon Bell, Sam Walker, Lucas Hairston, Danny Taylor, Mike Clore, Wade Watson, Doug Nadeau, Matthew Ellis, Zachary Zawadzke, Justin Fatheree, and Albert Block.
Services were held on Monday, July 11, 2011 in the Phillips & Luckey Chapel. Burial was in the Forest Grove Cemetery in the Forest Grove Community. Rev. Jimmy Haile officiated.
