Coaches on the Move

by Mike Organ

In a year when there did not seem to be much chance of movement by coaches, there has been a lot of shuffling in the last few days.

Lexington has lost Jeff Rogers, Charlie Tucker, and Ryan Starnes. These are quality coaches that will be hard to replace. Also gone is Jennifer Tucker who was the cheerleader coach. Jarad Richards has been hired to take Rogers’ place. Michael Williams is on track to replace Charlie Tucker, but as of this writing, no one has been hired to replace Starnes. Already missing was the volleyball position, but that job has been filled by Kym Aldrich.

Elsewhere, Cade Burns left Thorndale to take over at Mason. Thorndale hired a coach from Odessa Permian to replace Burns. ( They probably thought they would get someone from Friday Night Lights.)

The Elgin head coach left for an assistants’ job at Galveston Ball where former Lexington-ite, Larry Nichols, is superintendent. Elgin hired Wade Griffin from Georgetown where he was the defensive coordinator. It seems that despite all the great facilities, Elgin is not an attractive spot on coaches’ maps.

With the last day for movement Tuesday, there may be some more last minute hires and resignations.
