Commissioners Approve Funding for Balcony Support
At the Regular Meeting of the Lee County Commissioners, the Commissioners heard and then acted to approve a proposal from Stephen Foster to provide the necessary technical data for making a request to the Texas Historical Commission for additional funds for the Courthouse Repair Project. These additional funds will be needed to properly correct the framing supports for the balcony of the courtroom. As it is now, this framing is inadequate to support the seating capacity of the balcony, and, if left unrepaired, could result in a dangerous situation. The funding approved by the Commissioners in this session is about $73,000, which will cover Phases I and II only. The estimated cost of the entire correction is about $244,000, costs not covered in the existing Project.
A presentation to request these additional funds is expected to be made to the Texas Historical Commission at their next Quarterly Meeting on July 28, 2011.
In other action, Lee County Sheriff Rodney Meyer reported to the Court that the Lee County Law Enforcement Center passed a surprise State Inspection on June 9, 2011.
The Court also approved sending a Letter of Recommendation for Michael Simmang to be selected to the Brazos G Water Planning Board.
