Crawford to Speak on Osage Indians at the Log Cabins
Sunday, July 10, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., the Lexington Log Cabins and Heritage Center will host the quarterly General Membership Meeting. Mark your calendars as we have an excellent program scheduled. Bill Crawford will present a program of American Indian artifacts. Most of these originated with the Tallchief family with whom Bill has been friends for many years. Much of his collection was previously on display at the Masonic Lodge in Lexington.
The Tallchiefs are Osage Indians who were moved from Kansas on the Osage Trail of Tears to Oklahoma. Elizabeth (Eliza) Tallchief made many of the articles. There are deerskin moccasins, boots, bags, etc., complete with beautiful beadwork. Eliza had one son whose two daughters, Maria and Margery, were renowned ballerinas.
Bill will display and tell the stories and history of the artifacts and pictures in his collection. All are authentic, not reproductions.
Please join us for this excellent presentation. Refreshments will be served and Bill will answer any questions about the items in this collection.
