Fayette County Hunter Safety
A hunter safety education course will be taught on Tuesday, July 12 and Wednesday, July 13 by Clinton Bippert of La Grange. The course will be taught from 5:00 p.m. till 11:00 p.m. each evening and students must attend both sessions of the course. Twelve hours of instruction is a requirement to receive a hunter safety certificate. The course will be taught at the La Grange City Hall. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department requires every Texas hunter born on or after September 2, 1971 to successfully complete a hunter education training course. If you were born on or after September 2, 1971, and you are:
* 17 years old and older - you must successfully complete a hunter education course to hunt in Texas.
* 9-16 years old - you must successfully complete a hunter education course or be accompanied by a licensed hunter 17 years old or older.
* Under 9 years - you must be accompanied by licensed hunter 17 years old or older.
*Nine year olds attending the course are encouraged to be accompanied by a parent.
Many states require a hunter safety certificate before selling an out of state license. All hunters who are planning to hunt in another state should verify hunter safety requirements with that state. Several states require a safety certificate for those born on or after January 1, 1949.
Individuals, 9 years or older who fall into the above requirements, wishing to take this course can register by calling the Fayette County Extension office at ( 979) 968- 5831, e- mail: email@example.com, or Clinton Bippert at (979) 968-5538 or (979) 966-7689 on or before Monday, July 11. The cost of the course is $15.00.
Each participant is requested to bring a sack lunch and a drink. Several breaks are planned. Also, bring a No. 2 pencil to fill out the required registration form.
Extension programs serve people of all ages regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex, religion, or national origin. Persons with disabilities who plan to attend this course and who may need auxiliary aids or services such as interpreters for persons who are deaf or hearing impaired, readers, large print or braille, are requested to contact the Fayette County Extension Office at (979)968-5831 two work days prior to the course so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
