Buffs Picked 2nd in District

by Mike Organ

The Giddings Buffaloes are expected to make the playoffs under new coach Chris Jones. The Buffs are predicted to finish behind Navasota in District 23- AAA. Giddings is not ranked in the top 20 but they are noted as a team to watch. The Buffs return seven offensive and nine defensive starters from last season’s 5-5 team. The Buffs lost in the first round to Brookshire Royal in Brenham.

The Buffs return massive amount of talent to the team Jones will guide in his first season at the helm. The Buffs have speed, experience, and huge offensive linemen returning on offense. QB Spencer Fitzhenry is the offensive lynchpin. Running backs Joseph Glenn, Deon Hickey, and Jackie Wade give great skill and speed to the backfield.

Defensively nine starters return. Jacob Satterfield leads the defense from his linebacker position. Several other players like Garry Cooper, Jamil Jackson, and Jacob Kruhnak will patrol the secondary. Up front La Pear Willrich at 290 lbs. gives blockers a force to be reckoned with.

Coach Jones has a record of producing top teams in his stops at Refugio and La Marque. His Refugio teams had a record of 35- 14 in four years at the helm. The one year at La Marque was a 9-3 season. However his three years at Post only produced a 16-16 record with one playoff team. With the talent on hand the folks in Buffaloland are expecting a big run into the playoffs.
