The 36th Infantry Division Band’s Summer Concert Series kicked off on Sunday, May 29, 2011 at the Veterans Memorial Plaza in Sun City, Texas with 14 of the 15 shows open and free to the public.

Throughout the 15- date Summer Concert series, stops will be made in Sun City, Fredericksburg, San Angelo, Odessa, Lubbock, Buffalo Springs, Amarillo, Wichita Falls, Cisco, Waco, and the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with the band scheduled to play during Military Appreciation Day at the July 2nd Texas Rangers Baseball game.

“ Acting as Goodwill Ambassadors for the State of Texas, the 36th Infantry Division Band will be spreading patriotism and military appreciation throughout the state and we feel this is just one way our Service members can give back to the community,” said Staff Sgt. James Boski, Rear Detachment Readiness Non-Commissioned Officer for the 36th Infantry Division Band.

Headquartered at Camp Mabry in Austin, Texas the award winning 36th I.D. Band is made up of smaller performing ensembles with the concert and marching bands being two of their larger ensembles. During the concert tour, the concert ensemble, ceremonial band, instrumental and popular music ensembles will be under the musical direction of Sgt. Gary Brock. In 2008, the band was honored with The Colonel George S. Howard Citation of Musical Excellence and received the Meritorious Unit Citation for service provided in the European Theater during World War II (1944-1945).

The 36th I. D. Band is composed of Soldiers serving in the Texas Army National Guard with members from all areas of civilian professions, including law enforcement, public service, private business and education. Members of the band train one weekend a month and two weeks a year in addition to their additional performing opportunities. Consisting of more than 60 members, the entire band is expected to be reunited this fall following the 36th I.D.’s return from Operation New Dawn.
