Youth’s Quick Action Saves Family Home

Koby Bailey, who will be entering Lexington Middle School and is the son of Gary and Paula Bailey, was home last Wednesday, June 15, when he began to smell smoke in the main part of his home located at 1036 Sherrill Lane in Blue, west of Lexington. He called his mother, who was in Rockdale at the time, and told her about the smell. She called 911 and the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the scene. They arrived around 1:00 Wednesday afternoon, just 15 minutes after receiving the call.

When firefighters arrived, it appeared that smoke was coming from the attic. As Lexington VFD continued their inspection of the scene, they discovered large amounts of smoke coming from an attached apartment on the other side of the house and saw flames coming from a utility room in the apartment. Firefighters extinguished the fire, but not before there was substantial damage to the utility room and apartment and smoke damage throughout the main residence.

LVFD had three trucks, with six firefighters, responding to the Bailey fire. They were Tommy Hart, Jarrett Ahrendt, Howard Pool, Ace Blankenburg, Michael Milburn and Mickey Milburn.
