Pedestrian Struck on Hwy. 290
On Wednesday night, June 15, at 11:45 p.m. a pedestrian was hit on Highway 290 west of Giddings. DPS Trooper Ordie Manner was dispatched to Highway 290 near the bowling alley at the Shady Oaks intersection in regards to the accident. David Lynn Moore, Jr. of Dime Box, was driving a 2001 Lincoln traveling eastbound in the outside lane of travel when he struck someone in the middle of the highway.
According to Trooper Manner’s initial report, Thomas Edward Morgan, 17 years old from Giddings, was walking southbound on Hwy. 290 in the eastbound lane when he walked into Moore’s lane of travel. As a result, he was struck by the left front fender of Moore’s vehicle and was thrown down in the eastbound lane. Moore immediately pulled off the highway and rendered assistance to Morgan by pulling him off the highway to get him out of the way of oncoming traffic. Moore called 911 and DPS and B & M Ambulance, along with the Lee County Sheriff’s Department, responded.
Airvac from LaGrange was called to the scene and life-flighted Morgan to Brackenridge Hospital in Austin where he was treated for non- life- threatening injuries. Trooper Manner’s report indicated that alcohol involvement on behalf of the pedestrian was a factor in the incident.
