Rural Texas the Focus of Exhibition

Karen Vernon will premier a new collection of works, celebrating the South Central Plains of Texas. In this departure show, Vernon, whose works are in collections around the world, will open an exhibit of her works at The Gallery at Round Top on Saturday, June 18th. After over 40 years in a career as a watercolorist, the artist is offering her first complete exhibition of pastel and oil paintings. The exhibit, Departure, has been a year in development and presents a lifetime of experiences. Often bold in stroke, sometimes quiet and intimate, Vernon approaches each piece in a direct manner, born from decades of observation and exploration. The artist is offering themes she has never yet explored, silent and waiting to be brought forth.

Vernon’s paintings can be found in museums in this country and the Europe, corporate collections and private collections across the nation. A resident of Brenham, Vernon finds the gentle rolling hills of the South Central Plains of Texas to be an ongoing inspiration for new works. “ The Texas sunsets that erupt in the skies, the morning mists that wrap the trees and fill the valleys are ongoing discoveries of color and textures that call me out.”
