Fireworks in the Park Still “A Go”
Although Austin and many towns have canceled their fireworks shows, Lexington’s Annual Fireworks in the Park is “still a go”, according to Nancy Perry with the Lexington Chamber of Commerce. The event will be held on Monday, July 4 at Lexington’s Memorial Park. Even though we are under a Burn Ban, the type of fireworks to be used are in compliance with safety regulations and coordinated by Lexington Volunteer Fire Department and the Chamber.
This week, it was learned that Austin’s annual downtown 4th of July Fireworks show has been canceled. Continued drought conditions have led the Austin Fire Department and the Travis County Fire Marshal’s Office to decide not to issue any fireworks show permits this year for Austin as well as Pflugerville, Oak Hill, Westlake Hills, and the Lake Travis area, all of which, traditionally, hold sanctioned fireworks shows. The fire marshals believe that conditions are just too dry to allow those displays. This will be the first time in 35 years that the city of Austin will not host a fireworks show for the 4th of July.
