Margaretha Christine Anna (Thompson) Dafler
Margaretha Christine Anna (Thompson) Dafler passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 22, 2011 in Lexington, TX. She was born January 16, 1915 to Nels and Mary ( Wendt) Thompson in Washington Co, NE. She lived in Eastern NE., then moved to her grandparent’s farm south of Paxton, NE. There she graduated from 8th grade in a small country school. She helped her parents on the farm doing housework, gardening, canning, picking corn and milking cows.
On October 28, 1936 she married Hubert C Dafler. They lived on the Gleims Farm, 13 miles south of Paxton, NE for 45 years. They raised cattle, wheat, corn, chickens, gardens and 4 children; Wayne, Ann, Alvin and Irene.
In 1962, Hubert and Margaret and family moved to Fall City, WA. Hubert worked with his son Wayne at Weyerhaeuser mill for three months. Then he had a chance to farm 800 more acres, known as the Cretsinger Farm south of Paxton, NE. They farmed in the spring and summers in NE and lived in WA in the winter.
The Gleims farm was sold in 1980 and Hubert and Margaret retired to Fall City, WA. Margaret enjoyed family gatherings, bible study with Bobbie Dafler, fishing, family camping trips, cooking, making bread, crocheting, gardening and seeing her grandchildren.
Margaret lived in Fall City, WA until April, 2005 when she moved with her daughter, Irene Moss and her husband Tim to Lexington, TX. In Lexington she enjoyed going to the Eagles Wing Christian Center. She attended weekly Lexington Senior Center’s potluck dinners and enjoyed the music played after the potlucks. Margaret made many new friends; most of them just knew her as “Grandma.” She fed the chickens and goats and enjoyed going outside to supervise Tim and Irene when they did the farm work. She made 3 trips up to WA to visit relatives while living in TX, the last one in 2010. She enjoyed visiting with Alvin and Nancy Dafler, Bobbie Dafler and her grandchildren that visited her in TX.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Ann (1982), her husband Hubert Dafler (1996), her son Wayne Dafler (2002) and daughter-in-law Bobbie Dafler (2010).
