Over the Memorial Day weekend, Lee, Burleson and Washington county game wardens were assisted by two game warden cadets in their final water safety field trip prior to graduation in late July.

The cadets received instruction in boating operations, citation writing, community policing and expected duties while on public water. The weekend culminated by the cadets being evaluated on their performance by applying what they learned.

Overall, lake traffic was busiest on Saturday and Sunday. Several incidents of running aground in shallow water and capsized vessels kept wardens and marina personnel busy. There were no injuries reported to law enforcement officials. Windy conditions made boat approaches almost impossible with waves in the 3 to 4 foot range on the north side of the lake. Citations were written for...Operating jet skis after dark, Insufficient number of life jackets, Expired registration, Unserviceable fire extinguishers and Fishing w/o licenses.

Finally, many thanks to area landowners that allowed the use of their stock ponds for several fishing clinics. Fish were caught and fun was had by all.
