Tragic Drowning of Toddler
Last Saturday, June 4, a 2 ½ year old girl tragically drowned in a pond in south Lee County.
At 10:08 a.m. on Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff ’s Office received a 911 call regarding a child that had been found in a stock pond at 1096 PR 6001. Emma Rose Johnson had been in the pond for an unknown length of time. The caller stated that CPR was in progress.

CPR was continued on the child, who was transported to the Smithville Regional Hospital by B&M Ambulance. An inquest was conducted by Bastrop County Justice of the Peace (Precinct 4) Larry Dunne. The investigation revealed that the child was placed into her room to watch a movie while the parents were cleaning the house. After about 25-30 minutes the parents went to check on the child and were unable to locate her in her room. The parents searched inside and outside the house before her father found her in the pond. She was the daughter of Vanessa and Cameron Hentschel.
The Travis County Medical Examiner’s tentative finding from the autopsy was Accidental Drowning.
