Sports Thoughts

by Mike Organ

How can you explain UT’s poor softball performance in the post season? They never won a national championship even with Cat Oostermann pitching. The last two years have been an early out for the Lady Horns. Is there an explanation?

A&M and Texas tied for the Big XII championship in the regular season. A&M and Missouri will play for the tourney championship. Doesn’t Texas get up for the tourney? Do they think they will get an easy route to Omaha? I don’t think the Horns will get to the College World Series even with one of the best pitchers in college baseball.

As predicted by pundits, the Houston Astros are one of the worst teams in Major League Baseball. Yet the team is being sold for over 600 million dollars. Is that a good investment?

The baseball all-district team is being held up by Cameron’s move through the 2A playoffs. The Yoe lost to Bishop on Thursday night and then both of Saturday’s games to advance to the Regional finals against Weimar. That series between a 2A baseball hotspot and a newcomer could prove to be a real good one.

Will there be a NFL season this year? I think so, because both the owners and the players could lose a lot of money if they don’t play. Money being the issue, both sides will concede some points so the money will flow.

Ray Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens thinks the crime rate will go up if they don’t have an NFL season. I wonder if he is thinking of the general public or just the NFL players. Most of the people that go to NFL games aren’t convicted criminals but some of the players are!!

Four of the eight teams in the softball College World Series are from the Big XII. None of the four are from Austin or College Station. Baylor, Missouri, Oklahoma State, and Oklahoma made it. A&M was eliminated in the Super Regional finals.
