Lexington Middle School Tennis News

by Marla Mitchell

The Lexington Middle School Tennis Team competed at the district tournament May 7, 2011 in Academy. Several district teams were represented including Thorndale, Academy, Florence, and Cameron. The tournament brackets were divided into 7th and 8th grades, boys and girls, and doubles and singles. Our athletes did an outstanding job.

Jason Handrick is this year’s 8th grade boys singles champion. Walt Green finished third. Jason Mann lost the first round but played some really impressive consolation points.

In the 7th grade girls singles division, Gem Brewer finished second place and Melanie Scantlin came out third. Amber Turnipseed and Garlyn Radford played in the doubles division and played each set to a tie breaker.

Vance Kassner was the 7th grade boys singles champion. Jordan Exner also competed in 7th grade singles winning the Consolation Bracket.

It was a long, hot day but an excellent way to finish up a fun year of middle school athletics. We are very proud of each one of the students and the way they represented our school.
