Lydia Emma Bamsch
Lydia Emma Mitschke Bamsch was born on April 2, 1915 in Serbin, Texas to Gerhard & Emma ( Wojto Schiwart) Mitschke. She was baptized on April 4, 1915 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin by Rev. H. Kilian and confirmed on March 24, 1929 also at St. Paul Lutheran Church by Rev. Herman Schmidt. Her confirmation verse was Psalm 86:11, “Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.” Lydia was united in marriage to Gustav Bamsch on November 10, 1935 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin by Rev. Herman Schmidt. She was a lifelong homemaker who also worked alongside of her husband in the fields of their family farm. A lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, she was also a longtime member of the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed gardening, canning, quilting, sewing ( especially making bonnets), cooking, baking (especially homemade bread) and spending time with her family and friends. Lydia was always excited at the arrival of a new baby that would be increasing the size of her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gustav; two sons, Paulie Bamsch and Charles Bamsch; daughter, Bernelle Arldt; two grandsons, Keith Bamsch and Michael Matthijetz; three sisters, Hermine Mitschke, her twin sister, Mathilda Noack and a sister in infancy and five brothers, Edwin Mitschke, Martin Mitschke, Herbert Mitschke, Alvin Mitschke and Ervin Mitschke.
Lydia is survived by her five children, Marvin & Mildred Bamsch of Houston, Melvin & Mary Ann Bamsch of Giddings, Charlyn & Marvin Matthijetz of Giddings, Kenneth & Alice Bamsch of Houston and Linda & August Herbrich of La Grange; daughter-in-law, Lillian Bamsch of Giddings; son-in-law, Marvin Arldt of Houston; 19 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; 5 great, great grandchildren; four sisters-inlaw, Dorine Prellop of Warda, Lorine Bamsch of Warda, Hermine Melcher of Houston and Louise Proske of Houston as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Lydia Bamsch, 96 of Serbin, Texas, were held at 10: 00 a. m. on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin with Rev. John Schmidt officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Visitation was held Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The Bamsch family was present for visitation Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers were Charles Bamsch Jr., Guy Coulter, Jeff Glenn, Mike Greer, Daniel Herbrich, James Herbrich, Keith Mitschke and Jeff Skweres.
