Eleanor “Ellie” Meta Friedrich
Eleanor (Ellie) Meta Schneider Friedrich passed away at St. David’s Hospital in Austin on the evening of Friday, May 13, 2011. She was 89 years of age. Eleanor was a dear and devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Eleanor was strong in her faith in the Lord and strong in her reliance on the Lord to cope with all of the physical ailments she endured for so many years. She reigns peacefully and joyfully without pain now in the loving arms of Jesus Christ in her new home called heaven.
Eleanor was born on July 9, 1921 in Fedor, Texas on the family farm to parents Oscar & Ida (Herzog) Schneider. She was baptized on July 22, 1921 by Pastor Liegenhiemer and confirmed on April 14, 1935 by Pastor Michalk at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fedor, Texas. At the age of 16, Eleanor went to Houston to work as a maid and nanny for many years. During the summer months, she would return home to help the family on their farm. She married her sweetheart, Edgar Friedrich, on November 24, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fedor. This union was blessed with four children. Difficult times and the special needs of the family brought Eleanor and her husband Edgar to Houston. In 1965, she went to work for Houston ISD as a cafeteria employee and retired in 1978 due to health reasons. She was a devoted member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Houston. She moved back to Lee County with her husband, Edgar upon his retirement and remained there until her death. She was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Texas. Eleanor was a supporter and contributor to many charities, missions, and organizations. Eleanor’s greatest joys and expressions of her love were shown through her cooking, gardening and sewing. She will be dearly missed by her family and remembered for her strength, perseverance, importance of family and her faith.
