Ben Junior Liberty
Ben Junior Liberty was born on January 28, 1924 in Giddings, Texas to Traugott B. & Laura H. ( Mueller) Liberty. He was baptized on February 10, 1924 and confirmed on April 10, 1938 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from January 21, 1943 until receiving his Honorable Discharge on February 18, 1946 having obtained the rank of Sergeant. Ben was united in marriage to Verdell Albers on September 4, 1954 in Giddings. He was a retired railroad clerk with Southern Pacific Railroad and enjoyed working on his farm.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Marvin “Red” Liberty and Dr. Herbert Liberty and two brothers-in-law, Bill Moehlman and Winston Keng.
He is survived by his wife, Verdell Liberty of Giddings; son, David Liberty of Houston; two sisters, Irma Moehlman of Yoakum and Arline Keng of Giddings as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Jeremy Walloch officiating. Burial followed in the Giddings City Cemetery. Visitation was held on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings.
Memorials may be made to Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings or the American Cancer Society.
Serving as pallbearers were Steven Keng, Jeff Keaghey, Jason Keaghey, John Ray, Dr. Billy Moehlman and Scott Moehlman.
