Tractor Trailer Burns on Hwy. 290

A big rig 2005 Peterbilt 18 wheeler burned to the ground last Sunday evening on Highway 290 just west of Giddings near CR 200 after the driver of the rig overcorrected and lost control.

Wilson Moreau, III, age 28 from Picayune, Mississippi, was traveling westbound in the outside lane of Highway 290 in a Peterbilt 379 tandem axle 18 wheeler owned by Stockstill Trucking, Inc. of Purvis, Mississippi. He was pulling a 2009 Doonan Extreme trailer.

At one point, Moreau began to enter the bar ditch on the west side of the highway when, according to the DPS initial report, he jerked the steering wheel to the left, causing him to enter back onto the westbound lanes of the highway.

He overcorrected again, this time to the right, causing the truck and the trailer to overturn onto their left sides, coming to rest across all lanes of traffic and facing north. The Peterbilt became fully engulfed in flames before the fire department arrived on the scene and the truck burned completely.

B & M Ambulance arrived on the scene and transported Moreau to the St. Marks Medical Center in La Grange with non- lifethreatening injuries. The Lee County Sheriff’s office assisted Trooper Aaron Early at the scene.
