Florence Tops Eagles
With Lexington only needing a victory to sew up second place in District 27-AA the Florence Buffaloes came to town wanting to spoil the Eagle achievement. The Buffs brought their ‘A’ game and beat Lexington 11-8 to temporarily derail Lexington playoff plans. Little did anyone know, that last place Academy would rise up and beat Rogers to hand second place to the Eagles.
Florence jumped out to a 8-0 lead after three innings. Tyler Moerbe cut that in half with one swing of the bat. A grand slam home run brought Lexington to 8-4. Lane Turner walked to lead off, Josh O’Conner walked, and Kaelan Blok walked setting the stage for Moerbe’s big fly.
Lexington closed to 8-6 in the fourth. Turner led off with a double, Donnie Havard reached on a dropped third strike, and Blok delivered them home with a single.
Florence widened the lead to 11-6 with three runs in the fifth. Lexington could only get two more in the seventh. O’Conner doubled in front of a Blok triple. Blok scored on a wild pitch to get Lexington to 11-8 but that was it for the Eagles.
