Brown & Blok Win Homecoming Tennis Tourney

Eagle Duo Face Defending State Champions In Austin Monday

Sophomore Mackenzie Brown teamed with senior Kaelan Blok, her UIL Mixed Doubles partner to win the Lexington Homecoming Tennis Tournament held last Sunday. The Lexington duo won the District and Regional Tennis Tournaments this year and will be competing in the State Tournament which will be held at the Lakeway World Tennis Resort in Austin. They play the defending state champions Wall, Monday afternoon at 1:00 pm.

The Lexington tourney comprised of 7 doubles teams playing in a round robin format. Every team had 6 matches which wasa6gameset.Thetotalnumber of games won determined the winner. Brown & Blok were the homecoming champions with 34 points. Rick Spencer and Colton Christiansen of Giddings were second with 33. Tom and Anna Maldonado of Rockdale placed 3rd with 32. Fourth place was Jacob Crump and Nick Pelzell of Rockdale with 26 followed by Mike Buck and James Yeager of Giddings with 25. Lexington freshmen Eriq Mitchell and London Jacob finished 6th with 19 points, but had the best match of the day. They took Brown and Blok to a tiebreaker before losing the match 6-5. The 7th place team was Kassen Mikulencak and Nathan Crabb with 18 points.
