by Mike Organ

Lexington beat Jarrell 12-2 and qualified for the state playoffs with the win. Lexington has two games left on its schedule Friday at Cameron and Tuesday Rogers at Lexington. This will be Lexington’s ninth straight year to be in the playoffs.

Lexington opened with two runs in the bottom of the first after Jarrell posted a run in the top half of the inning. Meghann Wrinkle singled with one out. Wrinkle moved to second on a wild pitch and came home on Courtney Robertson’s single. Robertson moved to second when the left fielder misplayed the ball. Robertson came home as the outfielder erred again on Hailey Jatzlau’s single.

The three runs in the third inning came after Wrinkle walked to lead off. After a couple of miscues, Wrinkle scored on a single by Jatzlau. Jatzlau moved up on Mackenzie Brown’s single, and both scored on Tayllor Lagrone’s single.

Megan Scantlin walked to lead off the fourth. She moved to third on Wrinkle’s double. Scantlin scored as Robertson lofted a sacrifice fly ball to centerfield. Jatzlau doubled score Wrinkle. Jatzlau then scored on a throwing error by the Jarrell catcher. Brown reached as the catcher dropped the third strike. She headed toward first as the throw went into the outfield, ending up at second base. Madison Bexley walked and both runners moved up on Kristin Boettcher’s ground out. Lagrone singled to score two more runs.

The final two runs came on Wrinkle’s second double, and singles by Jatzlau, Brown, and Bexley.
