Lady Eagles Smoke Bees

Lexington defeated Academy 12- 2 Tuesday afternoon in a District 27-AA game of playoff importance. The win moves Lexington into sole possession of second place in the District race. What a difference a month makes. Academy owed Lexington in an 8- 1 win in Academy early in March. The Bee pitcher struck out 13 Lady Eagles that day, Tuesday she was able to strike out only four.

Meghann Wrinkle singled with one out. She moved to second on Courtney Robertson’s single. A double steal moved the runners to second and third. Mackenzie Brown’s single got a run home. Madison Bexley singled to get Robertson home. Krsiten Boettcher’s slapper got Brown home. Lexington led 3-0 after one inning.

Academy got two in the top of the second to close to 3- 2. Lexington answered with one in the bottom half of the inning. Scantlin singled, went to second as the centerfielder missed the ball. On the throw to third base the ball got away allowing Megan to score.

Two more runs in the third came as Brown singled to lead off, moved to third on two wild pitches and scored on an error by the left fielder on Bexley’s drive. Boettcher singled and went to second on Taylor Lagrone’s fielder’s choice. Veronica Richardson singled to drive Boettcher home.

The final run explosion came in the bottom of the fourth. Wrinkle led off with a homer to get things going. Robertson was hit-by-apitch, Jatzalu walked, Brown walked, and Bexley singled sending two home. Lagrone reached on a fielder’s choice, Richardson singled to score Bexley. Scantlin singled to load the bases and Wrinkle delivered two more with a single to end the game via the mercy rule.

Robertson was the winning pitcher for Lexington. She struck out seven in route to the victory.
