Lady Eagles Ease Past Lago Vista
Lexington opened the game with a bang. The lead off hitter, Megan Scantlin, slapped a single to the infield. The catcher threw toward first to try to pick her off on the first pitch to Meghann Wrinkle. The ball went into the rightfield corner as Scantlin scampered around the bases for a score. Wrinkle then singled to the outfield on the next pitch. Courtney Robertson homered on the next at-bat for a 3-0 Lexington lead. Mackenzie Brown laid down a perfect bunt for a single. Brown stole second base, went to third on a wild pitch, and trotted home on Kristen Boettcher’s high hopper to second base that went for a single.
The rout was on, or so Eagle fans thought. Lexington added two more runs in the second inning. Scantlin led off with her second single. Wrinkle tripled to the right centerfield fence sending Scantlin home. Hailey Jatzlau singled to bring home Wrinkle.
Lexington made outs with runners in scoring position in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, and garnering only one run.
That run came on a throwing error by the LV centerfielder. Scantlin reached on a fielder’s choice. Wrinkle doubled and the wild throw from the centerfielder to third base allowed Scantlin to score.
Robertson pitched a three-hitter at the Lady Vikings. She struck out five and walked four. The Lady Eagles only committed one physical error, but more than one mental fielding error in the game that allowed LV to continue innings.
