Friday, April 29, is Paint the County Purple. Relay for Life of Milam County committee would like everyone to get involved by wearing purple on this day. Business and churches will put up purple bows or ribbons around their trees.

Rockne Leon’s Country Store

Leon’s Country Store is a popular spot to have conversation, drink a beer or play a game of pool. Some famous people have stopped by this store. There’s a photo of Ernest Tubbs standing on the roof of his touring car with a guitar in hand. The owner is Herman Goertz, who always has a friendly greeting for his patrons.

Cameron Milam County Nature Festival

The 2nd Annual Milam County Nature Festival will be held Saturday,

April 9, at the Cameron Park Zoo in Cameron. This is a fun and educational event for families and friends of all ages. There will be many exhibits, presentations, and hands on activities regarding many aspects of nature, including birds, bats, reptiles, snakes, horned lizards, native grasses, wildflowers and more. Bastrop County’s FunFest

Tuesday, April 19 - Looking for gifts to make, great fundraiser ideas or a day of crafting? Look no farther than Bastrop County’s FunFest on April 19. This annual event is sponsored by the Bastrop County Extension Education Association and is being held at the Paige Community Center. Classes begin at 9 a.m. on April 19, with a covered dish salad luncheon at noon. Some classes to be held include a jeweled hummingbird feeder, a bird nest charm, a team spirit sunbrella and a Swedish weaving. There will also be demonstrations held on making a notebook cover and chair pocket, creating a crazy quilt patch and using herbal oils with Julie Cotton. The event will also in a silent auction, book and magazine sale and a just-for-fun T-shirt contest.

Registration is $4 with classes closing between free to $5, which includes materials. Registration deadline is Thursday, April 14 and class sizes are limited. For more information call 512/581-7186 or come by the office at 901 Pecan St. in Bastrop.

Blue Jackson Store Fishing Tourney

The Annual Jackson Store Fishing Tournament is Saturday, April 16, beginning at 8 a.m. Participants will have a great opportunity to win prizes, eat delcious food and help with a fundraiser to send young Charlie Schindler to Canada as an exchange student next summer. Smithville Wildlife Extravaganza

Saturday, April 9, at 1:00 p.m., the seventh annual Wildlife Extravaganza will be held at the Riverbend Park in Smithville. Event includes live auction at 4:00 p.m., barbeque dinner, vendors, exhibits, youth activities and photo contest. Proceeds go to help support mission of the Bastrop-Caldwell County Wildlife Management. For more information, contact Meredith Longoria at 512/332-7280.

Winchester Winchester Area City Wide Garage Sale

Saturday, April 9 from 9 to 2, the Winchester Area City Wide Garage Sale will be held. Two antique shops located on Thomas Street will be participating, as well as other vendors at the Penrose Park on Thomas Street. The Winchester Rifle Community Baseball Team will be selling breakfast tacos for their fundraiser on FM 153. Also, there will be sales in Vilss Hall, which is located on FM 153.
