Bomb Found on Hwy. 21

On Sunday, April, 3, 2011 at 10:43 a.m., the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from a complainant that reported her 15-year-old son had found a possible bomb while walking his dog on Hwy 21 W, not far from the Cedar Creek Intermediate and Middle Schools.

Upon arrival, deputies found a small PVC pipe wrapped in electrical tape with a short fuse at one end. Traffic on Hwy 21 W was rerouted away from the area with the assistance of Texas Highway Patrol and Bastrop County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office for over two hours.

Austin Police Department’s Bomb Squad was called to the scene and was able to disarm the bomb without incident using a robot. According to the Austin Police Department’s Bomb Squad, the device contained an explosive powder inside. The scene was cleared at 1:45 p.m.

The Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office is currently working all leads in this case with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
