Lady Eagles Deal Yoe Woe

In a battle for first place in District 27-AA softball at stake, the Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Yoe of Cameron 7-4. It was a battle until Lexington put up four runs in the fifth inning.

Lexington took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. Megan Scantlin and Mackenzie Brown led off with walks. Megan Wrinkle singled to load the bases. Scantlin scored on Hailey Jatzlau’s single and Brown scored as Madison Bexley grounded into a fielders’ choice. Both teams were scoreless in the second.

Cameron opened the third with three runs to take a 3-2 lead. Cameron nor Lexington scored in the fourth to enter the fifth with the Yoe leading 3-2.

Lexington popped Cameron with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Wrinle led off with a single, Jatzlau walked, Bexley grounded into a fielder’s choice to get a run home. Taylor Lagrone singled to put runners on first and second. Kristen Boettcher reached on a fielder’s choice failed. The bases were loaded. Scantlin reached on an error as Lagrone scored. Brown was hit by a pitch to force Boettcher home. Courtney Robertson walked to send Marley Ross across home plate.

Lexington added a seventh run in the bottom of the fifth. Jatzlau singled and Lagrone doubled her home.

Cameron was able to score one meaningless run in the top of the seventh.

Robertson struck out 10 Cameron batters. She gave up three hits and walked two in a good pitching performance.
