Robbie Marion Knipstein
On March 28th, Robbie passed into the loving arms of God. She was born February 9, 1923, in Carmine, TX to Bob and Blanche Zwernemann. Seven years later, her sister Betty (Carlton) was born. The family moved to Giddings, TX when she was a senior in high school.
Robbie met a handsome young man at a dance, whom she later married in 1941, Jim Knipstein. Their union produced three children, in whom she took pride as a stay at home mother, excellent cook, and a baker of countless cookies, pies, and cakes. The family moved to Freeport, TX in 1951, where she was a loyal member of Freeport First Baptist Church. Throughout her 88 years, she enjoyed reading, playing games, crocheting, shopping, and “eating old dead shrimp”. After Jim died in 1998, she remained in Freeport until 2010, when she relocated to Kansas.
She is survived by her children: Dr. Robert C. (Joe) Knipstein, Mary Maughn Lewis, and Thomas E. Knipstein and his wife Rita; and grandchildren: Sloan Knipstein, Brad Knipstein, Lara Maughn, Anna Maughn, and Lisa Beasley, and a bounty of friends.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home, 588 North Main Street, Giddings, Texas. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Giddings City Cemetery.
