City Council Meeting

The Lexington City Council met in a Special Meeting on Tuesday, March 22 in order to move forward toward resolving the City Police situation. The Council agreed on the Job Description for the Police Chief and on the Job Requirements expected of Candidates for the position.

The Council also agreed to advertise for the Chief’s position through the Texas Municipal League (TML), the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards (TCLEOSE), and this paper. The Council set April 15, 2011 as the deadline for applications.

The Council also authorized the Mayor to appoint two Councilpersons as members of a Committee to conduct interviews of potential prospects in conjunction with himself and some volunteers from retired or current Law Enforcement Officers within this area. The names of these will be announced at a later time.

Possible actions on staffing other positions in the local Police Department was tabled for a later date.

All City Council members, Tony Tavary, Tim Brown, Greg Langehennig, Lori Barnikow,and William Langehennig, were present at the meeting, along with Mayor Robert Willrich, Sr., and City Attorney Michelle Weiser.
