Area Students Gain Better Understanding of Livestock Show Animals & Demonstrate that in Their Posters


Grade 3-5 2nd Place – Korbyn Kawazoe Grade 3-5 2nd Place – Korbyn Kawazoe The Annual Poster Contest for the Lee County Junior Livestock Show received a great response this year with over 700 entries received. This was the highest number of entries received in competition. The Livestock Show is March 23 -26.

The contest, sponsored by Bluebonnet Electric and coordinated by the Lee County office of Texas AgriLife Extension Service, was open to all youth of Lee County with competition in three different age categories. The 1st Place winners in each category will receive a cash prize.

Winners were: Kindergarten - 2nd Grade: 1st Place - Pablo Nava, 2nd Grade, Giddings Elementary; 2nd Place - Vanessa Villela, 1st Grade, Giddings Elementary; 3rd Place - Laci Marburger, 1st Grade, Giddings Elementary.

3rd Grade - 5th Grade: 1st Place - Heather Exner, 5th Grade Lexington Elementary; 2nd Place - Korbyn Kawazoe, 5th Grade, Giddings Intermediate; 3rd Place - Micah Proske, 3rd Grade, Giddings Elementary; Honorable Mention - Rebecca Kruemcke, 3rd Grade, Giddings Elementary

Posters will soon be seen in businesses across the county in support of and advertising for the Livestock Show.

The Extension office is happy to recognize the Art Teachers of these winners: Lexington Elementary, Christine McManus; Giddings Elementary, Julie Lucas; Giddings Intermediate and Middle schools, Faith Preuss; and St. Paul Lutheran School, Kim Droegemueller.

County Extension Agent and contest coordinator, Tonya Poncik, said, “Without the strong support of the Art Teachers, the Annual Poster Contest would not be the success that it is. The teachers are to be commended for their efforts in the classroom, introducing the students, not just to Livestock Competition, but to the use of art in advertising.”


Grade 3-5 Honorable Mention – Rebecca Kruemcke Grade 3-5 Honorable Mention – Rebecca Kruemcke Poncik continued to say, “This year, Mrs. Lucas brought baby goats into her classroom so the children would have a better understanding of Livestock Show animals. The posters reflect that the students, without question, enjoyed their assignment.”
