By Victor Gonzales, Lee County Game Warden

Fishing on Lake Somerville this past weekend was very encouraging. While checking fisherman in a three day period, limits and half limits of white bass, crappie and hybrid bass were caught along the dam and the “hump” right off Rocky Creek Park. Fish were caught by trolling, jigging and throwing “slabs”.

One thing boaters should consider when being inspected for water safety compliance is how to store their safety equipment. Boat owners and/or operators fail to place equipment in a manner that renders it “readily accessible”. All safety equipment must be stored for immediate access in the event life jackets, fire extinguishers or sound producing devices are needed. Too many times game wardens observe ice chests, tubes, skis and other heavy articles placed over storage areas and compartments.

Feral hog complaints are coming in from around the county right now. If you have a feral hog problem, contact myself, Biologist Greg Pleasant or any Lee County Wildlife Association Board member to see if we can arrange to have someone try to assist you in pressuring the hogs into leaving. It’s not always successful, but addressing the problem at the onset is better than not doing anything at all.
