Tanker shuttle class attended by local Fire Departments

Picture and story by Donald Boriack

The Texas Forest Service sponsored a tanker shuttle and rural water supply operations class in Giddings on February 26, 2011. The eight hour class, led by TFS Regional Fire Coordinator Mark Wobus and assisted by retired Bastrop Fire Chief Mike Norman, was attended by 32 volunteer firefighters from Lexington, Fedor, Giddings, Bastrop and Paige fire departments.

The purpose of this class and hands-on training with mutual aid fire departments was to ensure a dependable water supply at large fires.

Shown in pictures above are members of Lexington and Giddings Volunteer Fire Departments using their water tankers, rotated, filling and unloading their tanks into two 3000 gallon fold out tanks. The fold out tanks are being used in tandem to supply a Giddings pumper truck.
